Step 1 - Register Your Domain Name
Every site needs an address (URL) in order for people to
access it on the World Wide Web. The first step to
publishing on the Internet is to register a domain name, eg.
www.yoursite.com, www.microsoft.com.
Go to a domain name registration site (www.DomainProcessor.com) to
register your domain name. You will need to pay a registrar
fee for the ownership of your domain name.
Thousands of domain names are registered each day, so you
should act quickly. Visit www.DomainProcessor.com
to check the availability and register the domain that you
desire.

Step 2 - Create your website
If you have not created your web pages yet, you will need to
do so before continuing to the next step. To create web
pages, you may hand code the html or utilize a WYSIWYG (what
you see is what you get) web page editor. These are some of
the most popular WYSIWYG editors: Microsoft
Expression Web,
Adobe Dreamweaver, NetObject Fusion and Adobe
GoLive
Even if you are using a web page editor to create your web
pages, it is a good idea to learn the basic html so that
you
will have an easier time fine tuning and trouble-shooting
your web pages.

Step 3 - Sign up with a webhosting company
Once you've registered/paid for a domain name and created
your web pages, you'll need to sign up with a hosting
company (www.webmage.com). The hosting company serves as a
place where web surfers can get your files to be viewed on
their browsers. Your hosting company does the wiring and
sets up your address (URL) so that when people type www.yoursite.com
they will see the right files.
If you are just testing out and not ready to commit $$ for
professional hosting of your website, there are free
hosting services on the internet, such as homestead.com,
tripod.com, or geocities.com.
These free hosting services have templates or tools that
allows you to build quick and simple web pages.
Instead of charging you, they will place advertisements,
pop-ups or banners on your
website.

 |
Step 4 - Upload
your files
The last step is to upload your files from your computer to
the hosting company's servers. If you've hand coded the
html, the most common way is to upload your files with FTP.
Free FTP software is available. Go to Filezilla's web site You may not need
to use a FTP programs if you've created your web pages
through a web page editor because most of the web page
editors provide built-in "publishing" or
"uploading" capability. .

your site
